Jimmy Ball Breaks For 200 Metres In Winnipeg Trials

Jimmy Ball of Dauphin Manitoba representing the Winnipeg Amateur Athletic Club lowered the Canadian 200 metre record with 21.15 seconds at River Park, beating the old mark by 0.6 seconds as five watches captured the feat. He also won the 400 metre test in 48.15 seconds while Liddle and Hay surpassed the Olympic standard of 49.45 seconds. The Tribune notes his notable sprint career and compares times to world records and Olympic standards.

Ochre River Sports Day a Splendid Picnic and Baseball Day

Good weather and large attendance marked Ochre River annual picnic and sports day on July 7. Hosted by the Community Club led by president W Wishart and secretary J Christ, about 800 attended. Running races and a baseball tournament featured eleven teams. due to one diamond, prize money was shared by Plumas Tamarisk Gilbert Plains and Wilson River, with Fred Siddle as umpire and a well attended hall dance to close.

Mayor Webb Discusses Road and Relief Plan with Officials

Mayor Webb of Winnipeg with G W Northwood and Col Stevenson visited Dauphin to discuss unemployment relief and completing roads into Riding Mountain National Park. They met Hon Thomas G Murphy and others, with plans to start work on the Norgate park road and the road north from Cameron School west of Minnedosa as relief projects. Dauphin board of trade urged building the Clear Lake to Dauphin route.

Football Championship Series Draw Shapes Dauphin League

Four teams including the Rangers Dauphin United C N R and Swan River compete for the Dauphin League title. The first round draw has Rangers vs Dauphin United with a follow on match to determine who advances. Ochre River versus C N R A is tentatively set with possible changes if Ochre River withdraws. The eventual winner could travel to Winnipeg for the Provincial Championship final.

Dauphin to Hold City-Wide Sale in October

Dauphin Board of Trade approves a city wide sale for October inviting all merchants and professionals to participate. Tickets earned with purchases will enter weekly prize drawings. Mrs. Joseph George Chard of Dauphin died on Tuesday July 12 1932 aged 73 years 10 months 9 days. The death leaves her husband and several relatives. Funeral arrangements were not announced.

Riverside Cemetery Vault and Chapel Project Approved

A July 6 meeting in Dauphin, attended by religious and fraternal groups, approved building a Riverside Cemetery vault and chapel. The brick cement vault, 23 by 28 feet, would hold 24 caskets and cost about 1500 dollars, funded by public subscriptions as a community project.

In Dauphin on July 6 and 7 1900s era records report several marriages. Paddock and Bage unite at St Pauls Church Dauphin with Rev W Brailsford. MecCorquodale and Bliss wed with Rev J W Churchill. Mills and Wells marry with Rev J W Churchill. Aitken and Osborne wed with Rev J W Churchill.
