Dauphin Regional Fair Sets Week of Excitement and Prizes

Dauphin Agricultural Society outlines a regional fair from July 12 to 15 with $500 in regional prizes and handicapped districts. Events include horse races, hardball and softball, base ball, and a varied grandstand lineup featuring Nellie Small and Captain La Vallee.

H A W North retiring after nine years as accountant at the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Dauphin was honored with a complimentary banquet at the Hamilton Hotel. Local groups praised his contributions as a singer and community supporter while plans to retire to England were announced.

Farewell to Dauphin Lodge Charter Member Robert Smith

At Dauphin Lodge No. 36 1.0.0.F. members bid farewell to Bro. Robert Smith Past Grand leaving for Vancouver. Smith, a charter member, helped institute the lodge thirty seven years ago and was praised for zeal and service to Oddfellowship. The lodge wished him long life in his new home.

Arena Dance Garden Opens At Arena Skating Rink

The new dance garden at the Arena skating rink opened with a strong weekend showing and 250 dancers on Saturday. Patrons praised the spacious floor and ventilation as Johnny Johnson's Music Makers provided music for the 9 to 12 p.m. sessions. Dances are planned for July 13 14 and 15 during the Dauphin Regional air event with further notices to follow.

Blaze Destroys Livery Barn And Three Buildings

A fire early Monday destroyed Peter Cruise’s livery barn with a stable, crushing shed, blacksmith shop, and Good Roads storeroom. Loss about $8,000, partly insured. Arthur Rzesnoski woke Cruise. three horses escaped. Fire damaged nearby houses. two electric poles burned. origin thought to be an electrical short in the loft.

Judging for Boys at Regional Fair

Dauphin Agricultural Society sponsors a Boys Judging Competition for teams of three aged fourteen to nineteen from eligible districts. Small cash prizes and free ground entry. The event is Friday morning July 14. Entries go to John Conner or Dr. O McGuirk. Multiple teams per district allowed. Winning team crowned Northern Manitoba champions.

Child Health Conference at Dauphin Fair Dates

Mothers are reminded a Child Health Conference will be held at the Dauphin Regional Fair on July 14 and 15 from 10 to 12 am and 2 to 5 pm A child specialist will attend Town residents are urged to visit mornings while rural visitors come in afternoons Children from birth to 6 years are eligible especially those starting school in September Serase and Son ship hogs and cattle from Dauphin and Valley River on Monday July 10

Elks Host Three Day Sports Day At Fair Grounds

Rain free Dominion Day brought ideal weather for Elks Lodge No. 57 sports day at the Fair Grounds. Major event was a baseball tournament with Dauphin Gilbert Plains Ste. Rose and Tamarisk teams. Tamarisk Juniors beat Dauphin Juniors. Tamarisk Seniors beat Wilson River. Gilbert Plains and Ste. Rose had byes. Tamarisk Seniors edged Dauphin 8 to 4. final Gilbert Plains 1 at Tamarisk 16 to 1. Harness races featured Joe Bryson and Tony Grattan among winners. A girls softball tourney saw Norma Weir’s team win. a dance capped the day with 125 couples.
