The Collegiate team lost 2-1 to United in the Walker Trophy clash, conceding their third straight defeat and dimming league title hopes. Cappelle and Brooks scored for United, Nicholsen replied late for Collegiate. Ranger leads with two games left, needing only a draw to seal the cup. Council Invites Tenders for Dam Reconstruction Plan

Dauphin Golfers Second in Free Press at Clear Lake

Dauphin Country Club players A. T. Warnock Dr. R. E. Dicks J. Gardner Jr and Dan Wall represented Dauphin in the Free Press Competition at Clear Lake Tuesday. Four clubs competed Clear Lake Neepawa Dauphin and Minidosa. The Dauphin team finished second to Clear Lake by nine strokes on aggregate. C Creed posted the low score of 90 for 18 holes while Warnock was second at 92. Johnny Lawrence accompanied the Dauphin players.

Rangers Clinch Walker Trophy With Draw

The Rangers secured the Walker Trophy when a 3 3 draw with United left them needing one point and two games remaining. Kiym Conton and Koshey scored for Rangers while Brooks Roy found the United net and a miskick from Andrekew added a third. Club and Handicap Golf Events For Lady Players

The schedule lists Lady Golfers events from July 18 to 28 with later rounds through August 25, plus Miss Bowman and many partners in extra series. Robson Cup Handicap runs July 7 to 17 with finals by August 12 and semifinals by August 6.

Nosed Out by One Point C N R Victory in Lawn Bowling

The C N R edged the town 13 to 12 in a tight lawn bowling match last Saturday. Town leader Jack Hadrell led a determined effort as Teddy Mayo rallied locals to challenge the railroaders amid a fire siren disruption.

Military Camp at Ochre Beach Forms Weeklong Training Unit

The Manitoba Horse under Lieut Col O McGuirk will camp at Ochre Beach next Monday for a week of training. The unit includes HQ Wing, Machine Gun and Signallers from Dauphin and A Squadron from McCreary. Brigadier Anderson, Col Montague, and Major Devey will inspect, with Thursday devoted to mounted sports open to the public. Tents will rise over the weekend and civilian lunches will be available at a dedicated booth.

James Dickson Pioneer Dies at Dauphin

Dauphin district mourns the death of James Dickson pioneer of the local family, at Dauphin General Hospital on July 7 after a year long illness. Born in Maxville Ontario 64 years ago he moved to the district in 1893 and farmed northeast of town. He married Flora Ann Hutton in 1920 and is survived by his wife two stepsons a stepdaughter and three sisters. Funeral held at Dauphin United Church with Rev Donagh officiating and interment in Riverside Cemetery.

Despondent man takes his own life at home

John Rinniak, 45, died from a self inflicted .22 revolver shot at 7:46 am Thursday in his home on the corner of 9th Ave and 1st Lt. SW. He had been in failing health for months and his brother had been arranging care, with his mother and Dmitro nearby. Doctors attended and no inquest will be held.

St Andrews Society Annual Picnic at Daphin Beach

The St Andrew's Society held its annual picnic at Daphin Beach on Thursday July 6. About 150 people attended enjoying baseball football and races. A basket lunch was served behind the Oliphant cottage Lafalot around six. Two hours of singing followed and Mrs Marshall of Bradley England entertained with a recital of Lord Allin's Daughter.

Dauphin Country Club Cuts Green Fees for Travelers

Green Fee rates for out of town players and travelers residing in Dauphin have been reduced. Sundays and holidays charge fifty cents for 18 holes or less, or one dollar for 18 holes or more. On other days the rate is fifty cents for 18 holes or fifty cents per day. Also note motorcyclists in England wearing white helmets for night visibility.

Dauphin Regional Fair Opens With Local Support Strong

Northwestern Manitoba’s Dauphin Regional Fair begins today in a regional pattern after the elimination of open competition. Premier Bracken and Agriculture Minister McKenzie plan to attend the opening, with judges named for horses beef cattle sheep and swine poultry and industrial hall exhibits. Officials report heavy early entries and anticipate large prizes distribution benefiting local residents.
