Four Young Men Injured In Christmas Eve Crash At Riding Mountain

Four young men headed to Grandview were injured in a Christmas Eve crash at the Riding Mountain National Park south gate. Wilfred Bowes driver, suffered a broken arm and facial wounds. Allan McLean had head injuries. Art Waters and George Slemmons also injured. They were transported from Erickson to Dauphin General Hospital by RCMP Constable Bonceloy.

Building Permits Reach $40 170 in Dauphin 1936

Dauphin issued permits valued at $40 170 in 1936 reflecting an upward trend in local building. The largest permit was for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic church on 11th avenue south, valued near $8 006. Major new structures included MecColl Frontenac service station and Ferguson store.

Rotarians Host Ladies Night at Town Hall Dinner

About fifty Rotarians and wives attended the annual Ladies Night at the town hall. President Thos Matheson presided as guests enjoyed Rotary songs telegrams and a pantomime. Grace Peebles won Rotary Queen honors amid varied acts by members and guests.

Power Plant Surges to New Load Record

Dauphin power plant hit an all time output of 420 K.W. last Wednesday evening December 23, surpassing the prior peak of 410 K.W. The current generator is rated 300 K.W. A 560 K.W. unit will be installed in March. Christmas Eve demand was lower at about 400 K.W.

Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church Elects New Officers

The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of Dauphin elected its new officers for 1937. Officers include honorary president A Ewachewski president P Conton financial secretary M Gadzosa recording secretary M Trenciak cashier Anthony Ewachew sky auditors M Losowsky J Duch S Gura. The 1936 year was a success with membership growing from 20 to 57 families. Rev. P Zaparyniuk serves as parish pastor.

Rabbi Solomon Frank Addresses Local Lodge in Dauphin

Rabbi Solomon Frank spoke at the Mentade Temple to the Dauphin lodge as officers for 1937 were installed. He urged peace, brotherhood, and learning from history while noting Europe fears and war avoidance. The ceremony featured Rt. Worshipful Hawkins and included a jewel presentation to J. M. Bateman by R.W. Bro. McConnell Sr.

Funeral Services Held on Wednesday For Mrs. J. Church

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday for Mrs. Eliza Church who died last Friday at her daughter’s home after a lingering illness. The 85/86 year old Ontario native, born Eliza Hopper, married J G Church in 1885 and lived in Dauphin district since 188? They left the East for the West thirty eight years ago. Surviving are seven children, including three sons Clarence Allan Ernest and four daughters Mrs Arthur Angus Mrs Wyman Arthurs Mrs W D McCrae and Mrs John Winters with one brother Arthur Hopper in Ottawa. Burial followed at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were H V Smith John Haddrell A F Whetter Alex Ophant Charles Snyder Archie Bennett.
