Winnipeg businessmen lead mineral tour through Dauphin to The Pas

A party from Winnipeg, joined by trade board members and Manitobe Chamber of Mines officials, travels via Dauphin to The Pas to review mineral development. The group, including J L Bowman and John Gardner, visits the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co at Flin Flon, then Island Falls to inspect power projects before returning or continuing to northern mines.

Militia Unit Returns From Camp Hughes After Training

The local Militia unit returned Friday from Camp Hughes where they trained for twelve days starting Monday the 15th inst under Lieut Col Ramsden Major McGuirk and several captains and lieutenants. The 6th Mounted Brigade including the 12th Manitoba Dragoons and other units conducted a productive camp with the Anderson Cup awarded to the Manitoba Mounted Rifles. weather was hot but training praised and a Sunday sports day drew many Dauphin attendees.

Wheat Holds Up Through Drought Amid Varied Reports

In Dauphin district wheat remains resilient despite drought with well filled heads on summer fallow and moisture pockets in the soil. Frost appears in places while farm samples from Geo Geisel Ochre River show Ceres and Axminster thriving, and Minnturkey rust proof wheat proves inferior to Garnet and Karkow No 22.

Interclub golf results and community notices in Dauphin

Dr Harrington led the Dauphin Country Club with 175 in the Free Press tournament last week as interclub scores determined subdistrict No 6 contenders. In a second session Harrington and Bowman surged to top places, with full results from both clubs and a Winnipegosis obituary for Mrs Thos Needham aged 55.

Club Championship Draw and Round Schedule

The club championship draw will be posted in the club house this week. Two weekends will be allowed for the completion of the first round games. After that the competition will be run off at one round per week. A one club competition will be played by the lady golfers on Friday at two thirty o clock. All members taking part will meet at the club house.

Water and Light committee backs drought yard watering ban

A special meeting approved a resolution to stop watering lawns trees and gardens during the drought and to present it to council. The town will cut street sprinkler water use to a minimum while a shortage looms.

Fire destroys Pine River boarding house part of nine rooms

Fire at about four o clock Wednesday morning at Pine River leveled a large nine room house owned by J J Hjalmarson of Dauphin. The boarding house inmates escaped in night attire while road surveyors housed there lost tools. A traveler lost money and books. insurance covered building and furniture but not Mrs Chamberlain personal effects.

Mrs J E Delmage wins three titles at Minnedosa Manitoba grass court championships capturing ladies open singles open doubles and open mixed doubles. Semi finals and finals show Delmage defeating Stone Lamont Crossley and Chester-Simpson with decisive scores across events.

Minnedosans Visit Lake Dauphin For Weekend Gathering

Judge and Mrs. Simpson hosted Minnedosa friends for a golf and lake weekend at Lake Dauphin. The group included Dr. E. H. Clark and Mrs. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Eakins, and others from Minnedosa and Russell. They enjoyed golf, a lake dip, and town visits before departing Sunday evening via Clear Lake.

Manitoba municipalities plan a special August 15 session to press six resolutions opposing provincial tax methods, including old age pension costs, health service levies, and railway taxation.
