District reports show improved yields after rains

Herald correspondents in the district note improved conditions since the recent rains. Favorable weather ahead for three weeks will aid cutting, with indications that yields will be considerably above normal in many areas.

Makinak Woman Missing After Winnipeg Trip

Mrs. McAdam wife of Hubert Mec Adam and two children disappeared after leaving Makinak for Winnipeg on June 9. She is believed to be traveling with a boy and a girl aged 3 years and 13 months, with no trace found to date.

Return of Garland Juveniles to Garland for War Benefit

The Garland Juveniles return on Saturday August 3 to perform for the Great War Veterans and war charities. The group includes six Garland girls, violinist Loban, and singer Teddy Halford. Corp. Sh 1? months war prisoner in Germany will relate his experiences. Matinee Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets 25 cents for children and adults at the Mateotin drug store.

Town Council Special Meeting Notes

A short special meeting of the town council was held with all members present. A motion placed men on public works under W. A. Brinkman supervision. Law 517 relating to erection within areas was referred to the committee of Coun uston and Mal colm for revision advisability. Council adjourned.

Dauphin Exhibition Notes at Summer Fair

The Dauphin Agricultural Society outlines judging dates August 8th and 9th with prizes for live stock and home economics entries. It lists point values for horses sheep swine poultry batter canning and needlework and describes schedule for baby boys and girls competitions, decorated auto contest, platform attractions and local talent. Officials urge Dauphin farmers to enter and attend with families.

Police crackdown on registration papers in city

Metro Gresko appeared before P M Hawkins charged with lacking registration documents. He pleaded guilty and was fined 10 dollars and costs. Police staff now stop pedestrians daily to demand papers with summons for those lacking them.

Social Roundup at Carberry and Area Cottages

Visitors and residents frequent cottages in Carberry Glengarry and Gilbert Plains this week. Notable names include Miss Bates Souris and Dauphin, Miss Cadman, Miss Myers, and the Scott dance host. The Soldiers Aid Society dance drew strong attendance. a Parker farm barn dance drew a smaller crowd with several local residents joining in.
