Big Day at Center Grove and Darlington Church United

The Christian Church held a September 25, 1921, revival and ordination event featuring J Frank Caldwell as deacon. Highlights included a morning sermon, then fellowship, choir music, and a moving afternoon service with community leaders and guests from Crawfordsville and Indianapolis. Plans outlined to raise the Center Grove building and expand the Darlington church with classroom space and a new bell tower.

Darlington Church History and Origins of Center Grove

The Darlington Christian Church traces to September 20 1848 with founders Nancy Frances Thomas Mikles and wife John Butcher and wife and Mr McDole and wife. Ground was donated in 1856 for a church at Sec 14 Franklin township, named Center Grove Church. The building burned in 1864 and the church moved to Darlington meeting in the Presbyterian Church until 1866 when the present structure began under Rev W T Warbritton.

Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary Observed at Ever son Home

A party of Dayton ladies visited Ladoga last Monday afternoon to attend the sixtieth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs John Everson. The event was held at their home from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. The guests included Mrs Susan Thompson and others, Mesdames Vennard Kirby Miley Hall Williamson Rhorer Mullen Lynch and Betty.

Queen Esther Circle Meets At Mrs. Craig Home

The Queen Esther Circle gathered ten members at Mrs. Willard Craig home. Mrs. Craig led a devotional, Miss Ruth Carson spoke on Gary settlement work, and Miss Helen Louise Cox and Miss Marian Brainard read leaflets. Ice cream and cake were served.

Missionary Society September Meeting Highlights

Mrs Frank Buchanan and Mrs Ghos Williamson hosted the Presbyterian Missionary Society gathering at their home. Mrs W J Frost led devotion, Mrs Ariel Cunningham spoke on India, and Mrs Leon LePage discussed Christianizing the American Negro at home and abroad. Woman undergoes gall stones and appendicitis operation

Mrs. Robert Larrick, with her son John Larrick and sisters Mrs. T. M. Campbell and Miss Lydia Hollingsworth, went to the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis Monday where Tuesday she underwent surgery for gall stones and appendicitis. Several stones were removed with the largest near an inch in diameter. She is improving nicely.
