A sunny autumn day brought many former members back for Darlington’s Methodist Homecoming. The day featured a morning service with Rev. Crowder, piano and vocal selections, a sermon on liberty, a midday dinner, and an afternoon program with guests from Crawfordsville, Lebanon, Frankfort, and beyond. Evening services included Rev. Crowder, a solo by Mrs. Leon Little, and greetings from visiting churches, ending with a friendly, informal benediction.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Thompson and Mr and Mrs Monroe Pittman entertained the Kings Rouriers Class at the Pittman home on Friday evening for a Hard Time Social. Guests wore poverty garments. viewing others caused merriment. They discussed Sunday School lessons roll call dues and class business. The church insurance was set to be funded for three years. A Halloween church social was considered but not finalized. Contests and refreshments followed with plans for the next meeting at the Parker home. Thomas E. Mathews, a highly regarded Crawfordsville resident, died at his east College street home Monday night at 10 30. The illness stemmed from pernicious anemia, afflicting him for over a year. He sought help at Martinsville and the Mayo Sanitarium in Rochester, Minnesota, but his condition worsened, and he had been bedbound for five weeks.

Mustered into Federal Service at Darlington
Darlington’s local unit, now Company E, 2nd Battalion 151st Infantry Indiana National Guard, is mustered into federal service under Captain Hector B. Hamilton. Major Rich and Sergeant Cordan plus Major Montgomery oversaw the oath at the gymnasium, with 65 men required and nearly full turnout. Remodeling to meet government standards will add two front rooms and a steam heating plant as equipment arrives.
