Memorial and Decoration Days Observed Across Town

Memorial Day services were held at the Presbyterian and M E churches with veterans from the Civil War and Spanish American War in attendance. Judge West of Crawfordsville spoke on the value of right over might. The New Market band provided music and a comfort drawing raised 96.30 dollars presented to Mrs. Marsh Hampton. Notable attendees from nearby towns were listed along with decorations at local cemeteries.

Mr and Mrs Will Murphy spent Thursday in Lafayette with Mr and Mrs Frank Hollenslee and family. Miss Dorothy Finley ran a needle into her foot Tuesday evening and had it removed after X ray at Crawfordsville Wednesday. Miss Elizabeth Love resigned from the Herald and will start at Farmers and Merchant State Bank Monday.

Miss Kathleen Johnston Accepts Post With Indianapolis News

Miss Kathleen Johnston daughter of Mr and Mrs Gregg Johnston leaves for Indianapolis to join the Indianapolis News accounting department after years as the local news carrier. A high school graduate she attracted management attention with her efficient work and now begins a new professional chapter.

Minister J B Johnson Transferred to Darlington Charge

Rev J B Johnson, four years pastor at Kirklin Methodist, is transferred to the Darlington charge by District Superintendent Dr Tillotson. He begins duties next Sunday with sermons at Campbell's Chapel 11 AM and Potato Creek 8 PM, and will move his family here soon.

Trip To County Farm Arranged By W C T U

The W C T U plans a trip to the county farm and urges all members to attend. Those providing transportation should call Mrs. Rose B Miller or Mrs Dora Gray. A meeting point is Frank Buchanans at 12 30 Friday June 7. Attendees should bring flowers for inmates.

Demonstration at School House on Wheat Substitutes

Miss Metzer the county Demonstrator will present a public demonstration at the school house on Wednesday June 5, with sessions in the morning and afternoon. Girls over fourteen are urged to attend the morning event and all ladies are invited in the afternoon to see demonstrations of wheat substitutes in quick and yeast breads.

Iris at Home Theatre Saturday Night

A five reel Pathe feature en titled Iris from a story by Sir A. W. Pinero stars Alma Taylor at the Home Theatre Saturday night. A reward is offered for a lost red velvet coat with tan trimming found on the road south or on Darlington streets. Geo Russell and family with Mrs Hulda Bond and Mrs Sat Hubard visited Brazil to see John Russell and family. They also saw W A Russell at Terre Haute. Dr McGrew and wife of Pierceton Indiana left after a short visit with Mrs McGrew's brother Wm Wimmer and wife. The Doctor attended a State Board of Health meeting in Indianapolis.

Auto Accident Near Colfax Leaves Four Hurt

A high speed crash two miles west of Colfax injured four youths, two severely. Lenora Bowers Lilly Loveless Harold Clouser and Charles Reno were in the car. Reno escaped with a broken shoulder, Clouser with two broken ribs. Loveless and Bowers suffered severe burns and injuries. They were taken to Colfax for care with Loveless initially feared to have a broken back but later thought not. Lenora showed signs of improvement as friends express relief.

Accident injures five on road south of town

A Sunday night crash on a cement road near Darlington injures five people among them Miss Mae Coffman, a former Darling ton teacher. The party including Miss Leaming Miss Livingston Miss Turner and Morris Coffman lacked braking power and rolled into a ditch. Dr. Peacock treated the injured and loaned a car to finish the night.

A large group of Montgomery County youths depart from Crawfordsville for Columbus Ohio to enter military service. Ten from Darlington area comprise the largest local delegation yet with James Newton Larrick chosen to lead the county party. Former Linden School Superintendent Killed in Aviation Field

Charles B. Passwater former Linden Schools superintendent and longtime basketball official died Tuesday when his aircraft crashed at the Hempstead Long Island aviation field. He lived in Noblesville where he enlisted in May 1917 and planned to receive a commission within ten days after training in San Antonio Texas.

Sugar Creek War Chest Sale Nets 792.82 For Township Quota

A Tuesday auction in Sugar Creek township drew a large crowd and raised 792.82 for the War Chest Quota. Items included a coin sold for 70 dollars then reauctioned for 80, a seed corn sack at 77.50, and an angel food cake for 4.50. Donations from church groups and a dinner added to the total, with auctioneer Heck Hamilton and clerk Homer Woodburn donating services. The receipts apply to Sugar Creek’s 2160 quota, with the rest to be raised by a card system.

Local residents share visits and trips across Indiana

Rev. Williams departed for Chicago on Wednesday. Several families from Clinton Carroll White Jasper Benton Tippecanoe counties spent Sundays with relatives in Indianapolis Danville and near Crawfordsville. A 200 mile car tour linked multiple counties as residents visited friends and attended community activities. Surgical dressings instruction occurred in Crawfordsville with participants returning the next day.

Cream Station Opens In Union City

The J. A. Long Company opens a cream station in the T. M. Campbell room formerly Said la's restaurant. Roscoe Ferguson of Thorntown will test the cream and pay the highest cash price. He will be here Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays to buy cream from sellers.

YM L Club Holds All Day Sewing at Grace Peterson Home

The Y M L Club gathered for an all day meeting at Mrs Grace Petersons home on Friday. Members shared lunch and sewed for Red Cross and French Relief producing two comforters and seventeen dresses. The next gathering is planned for two weeks later with Mrs Ada Pickering.

The Loyal Circle Class of South Christian Church held a chicken supper last Saturday evening. A large turnout enjoyed a fine meal and the event raised 38.65 for church funds.

Ray Fisher Injured in Mule Incident

Ray Fisher son of Levi Fisher was injured early Monday when he and an erratic mule tangled on the ground. A doctor was called to resuscitate Ray after the mule appeared to gain the upper hand in the struggle.
