Death of Mrs John Martz in Ladoga at 68

Mrs John Martz aged 68 died at home in Ladoga Saturday morning after a year of illness and three weeks in bed. She was born Mary Foust and married John Martz fifty years ago, with survivors including husband, three daughters, four sons, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Monday.

A soldier writes home expressing gratitude for letters received despite wartime hardships. He lauds Army morale and officers, defends government officials, notes front-line service, and laments limited time to answer all correspondences while praising comrades and the effort to conserve resources.

Falls From Window Leave Mrs. Cox with Injuries

Mrs. Pearl Cox suffered a painful accident Saturday when she fell from a second story window while washing it. She sustained a broken left wrist and ankle. doctors reduced the fractures and she is improving as expected.

Wallace Cook Returns to U S Hospitalized in Baltimore

Wallace Cook, who served with the Rainbow Division in France, has returned to the United States and is in a hospital at Fort McHenry, Baltimore. He fell ill shortly after arriving in France and was in serious condition, but in a letter to Mrs Emma Henderson he says he is much improved and hopes to travel to Darlington when able.
