Darlington Considers New Indiana National Guard Company

Darlington may raise a Company of the 151st Infantry Indiana National Guard with 1st Lieutenant and 40 men. Major Montgomery will discuss plans at a mass meeting Friday at 8 pm at the Library. If approved, headquarters in the local gymnasium, full equipment, recurring drills, and a government furnished band may follow.

Y M L Picnic Brings Family Groups Together at Flat Rock

Andersons Improving After Illness and Surgery

Asa Anderson, recently seriously ill for eight weeks, shows gradual improvement. His daughter Mrs. J. R. Wallace of Indiana Harbor, who came to assist, was admitted to the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Monday for an operation and is recovering well. Both are on the road to recovery and family friends share the relief.

Death of A. A. Cornell Rural Carrier at 64

Allen A. Cornell died at 1 o clock this afternoon after years of ill health. The Darlington rural route mail carrier gave up work on May 18 due to health issues and would have retired next October at 65 if health had permitted. He is survived by his son Floyd and two grandchildren.

The Live Wire class at Potato Creek Sunday School met Friday night at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore with Miss Ethel Moore and Walter Tribbett as hosts. Twenty members and five guests attended. Nail Wound Proves Fatal to Small Boy

Glen Long age 9 son of Mr and Mrs Walter Long died Sunday after a brief illness following a nail puncture. He stepped on a nail a week earlier and worsened Friday, passing away Sunday at 3 PM. Survived by parents sister brother grandparents and other relatives. Funeral held at home with interment in Green Lawn.

Storm Rips Through Northeastern Montgomery County Causing Extensive Farm Damage

A Tuesday afternoon storm from Linden to Shannondale caused heavy crop losses and property damage. Corn blown down, oats flattened, sugar trees down, a barn burned by lightning, and two buggy harnesses destroyed. Nine hundred bushels of corn and other farm goods lost. Telephones cut by downed poles. a cow killed by a falling tree and roof damage at Saidla restaurant.

Carlton Rhoads Undergoes Appendix Operation

Carlton Rhoads of Darling ton area was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis early Monday by Dr Pollom for appendicitis. The operation occurred before noon after his condition worsened from Saturday to Sunday. The appendix was severely diseased and likely would have burst if not treated. Mrs Rhoads accompanied him and returned home last night.
