Zarb Warns of Excise Taxes If Oil Prices Rise
In an exclusive interview Federal Energy Administrator Frank G. Zarb warned that if world oil prices rise much higher the United States could impose excise taxes or price limits on imported oil. He criticized past reliance on cheap oil and suggested a 39 month path to decontrol with a tax on excess profits to fund domestic energy development.
