College of the Virgin Islands strengthens local higher education
The College of the Virgin Islands, founded two years ago on St. Thomas, aims to keep island youths from leaving for mainland study and not returning. It plans to grow from a two-year to a four-year institution, boasting high shares of doctorates among its faculty to attract American-oriented public support and foster local talent. The 110-acre campus overlooks a beach and golf course to create a home-like feel for students.
