Diver Re-Enlists Under Pressure at Sealab 2 Mission
In La Jolla California Navy divers completed a historic bottom ceremony at Sealab 2. Julie Coffman reenlisted under 100 pounds per square inch while 1,000 yards off shore in a six times normal pressurized cylinder. Captains Bond and Mazzone signed Coffman who must remain in Seath 2 until relief Sept. 12. The team plans 15 day rotations with 36 hour decompression after 28 hours saturated. Marine life thrived on the bottom as the crew joked about rationing bread and cafeteria appetites during the mission.
