Nancy M. Taylor obituary Gretna Virginia

Gretna Nancy Motley Taylor died Tuesday morning at Medical Care Center in Lynchburg. Born in Pittsylvania County she was the daughter of Daniel Coleman and Georgia Anna Shelton Motley and widow of James F. Taylor who died in 1954. She was a member of West End Church of Christ. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at West End Church of Christ conducted by Rev. Terry Tuttle and Clyde Dalien with interment at Gretna Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Colbert Moran Funeral Home 7 to 8 30 p.m. Wednesday and at the residence of Russell Worsham Chatham Rt 5.

Funeral for Silas Brumfield set for Wednesday

Silas D Brumfield aged 72 of 208 Bailey Place will be laid to rest at Danville Memorial Gardens after a three year health decline. The service is scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Townes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Wright officiating. He died Monday afternoon at The Memorial Hospital of Danville.

James Yeatts of Gretna 58 dies unexpectedly

James Hermon Yeatts, 58, of Gretna, died unexpectedly Monday night at his home. Born August 7, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a retired farmer and World War II veteran. Survived by brother Meade Yeatts of Silver Springs Maryland and sister Cecile Hutcherson of Danville. Body at Colbert Moran Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Police Identify Human Bones In Bedford County Death

Roanoke AP report says human bones found near Fox Hill Road in Bedford County belong to Thomas W. Greer 22 of Lynchburg who had been missing since July 7. Medical examiner David Oxley cites self inflicted shotgun wound as the death cause and says identification came from personal effects and dental records. A sheriff's office spokesman notes bones were found by a Fox Hill Road family and during a deputy search Monday.

Virginia and North Carolina Weather Outlook

Virginia clouding up with rain or showers likely over mountains and developing showers elsewhere by evening. Highs upper 50s mountains to near 70 coast, with cooler lows Wednesday night and Thursday. North Carolina shows showers likely in the west Wednesday, rising to upper 60s and low 70s along the coast, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers later. Downtown log notes calm winds and varying temperatures through Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Transit Reports Favorable City Buses Profit in October

The Danville Transit System posted a $3,999.76 combined October profit from its mass and school tripper services. Mass transit earned $2,691.91 surplus, with $12,704.75 in expenses and $15,396.66 in revenue. The school tripper showed $1,207.85 profit from $6,998.65 in expenses and $8,296.50 in revenue. Insurance refunds and potential fleet replacements were discussed, with CTAC shifting to tri-monthly meetings.

Formation of Central Arts Council in Danville

A 35 member mix from Danville art groups met at the public library to discuss forming a central arts council to coordinate arts programs. Led by Julia Bailey the effort seeks broad community support and may pursue a National Endowment for the Arts grant named City Spirit. A follow up meeting is planned to gauge interest.

Volume on the Danville Tobacco Market fell to 259,634 pounds on Tuesday, producing $256,999 in sales amid ongoing warehouse closures in Brookneal and South Boston. North Carolina markets closed after Tuesday auctions, with Kenbridge and Petersburg completing Monday sales and brief cleanup sales planned next week.
