Police Arrest Juvenile On Theft Charge

A 17 year old juvenile was arrested by Danville police and charged with breaking and entering at the home of Tommy Bennett on Washington Street and grand larceny of property valued at $1,000. Detectives continued investigations of two overnight break ins at Irvin Taylor School and Naomi's Lunch on Betts Street. A tape recorder was reported missing at the school and cigarettes plus about $12 to $15 in cash were taken from Naomi's Lunch through a rear window.

Average price eased on the Danville Tobacco Market on Thursday while volume fell about 118,000 pounds from the prior day. Local growers sold 469,575 pounds for 472,102 dollars, an average of 100.44 per hundredweight. In week 14, 2,966,999 pounds sold for 3,123,232 dollars at 105.27 per hundredweight. The season totals reach 42,087,893 pounds for 50,252,933 dollars at 119.40. Yadkinville posted the lowest area average, under 70 per hundredweight, with South Hill the only other Area E market above 100.
