In October 1977 a bottle with a plea from sailors aboard the motor vessel Darien washed ashore on North Carolina. The note asks Whitco Marine Ltd for help, claiming crew are starved and held against their will. Coast Guard to board Darien near Panama Canal to verify seriousness.

Police Arrest Juvenile On Theft Charge
A 17 year old juvenile was arrested by Danville police and charged with breaking and entering at the home of Tommy Bennett on Washington Street and grand larceny of property valued at $1,000. Detectives continued investigations of two overnight break ins at Irvin Taylor School and Naomi's Lunch on Betts Street. A tape recorder was reported missing at the school and cigarettes plus about $12 to $15 in cash were taken from Naomi's Lunch through a rear window.
