Dan River Employees Club met November 1 at 1 p.m. at Schoolfield Recreation Center with high attendance. Officers elected for 1978 include Harry Seay president and Ray Handy treasurer. A Thanksgiving luncheon is planned November 15 with member price 2.50 and guest price 3.00, plus entertainment by the Dan River Band. Democrats Lose Ground in Virginia House Elections
RICHMOND AP Democrats lost some ground but kept overwhelming control of the Virginia House of Delegates. They dropped to 76 seats from 7 of 100, while Republicans rose from 17 to 21 and independents fell to three. Majority Leader James Thomson of Alexandria lost his seat in a three way race amid ERA backlash. Republican Gary R. Myers led in Alexandria's 21st District. Democrat Richard Hobson held reelection. Thomson’s defeat prompts jockeying for a new majority leader, likely A L Philpott.
