Churches Endorse Bond Referendum in Virginia
The Virginia Council of Churches endorsed the $21 million prison construction bond ahead of next Tuesday’s vote. The group split on other parts of the $125 million bond package, which also covers higher education, ports, state parks, and rental health programs, with each question to be voted on separately. Concerns were raised that state corrections might favor new prisons over cheaper community based alternatives.
