Gambling syndicate controls illegal wagering says officials
Pennsylvania law enforcement told the National Gambling Commission that organized crime has full control over illegal wagering on numbers, horses and sports bets in the state. FBI and DOJ officials argued there is no independent book and that gambling is the main revenue for organized crime, while local prosecutors cited legal reforms as key tools. The two day Philadelphia hearing was part of a national review due by October 1976.

New WFL Offers Settlement To Old League's Creditors
The World Football League proposes to pay creditors 11 percent of its gross revenues for 12 years. WFL president Hemmeter says the offer is for credibility and growth, though the new league bears no legal obligation to the old creditors. The plan assumes 16 teams and $4 million per club, totaling about $12 million over 12 years, funded from gross revenues. A national TV contract is viewed as essential for growth.
