Welfare Ruling Pleases N. C. Resources Secretary
North Carolina Secretary of Human Resources David Flaherty welcomed a Supreme Court decision denying welfare benefits for mothers of unborn children. Milk Price Regulation Sparks Senate Debate in North Carolina
Consumer advocate Lillian Woo urged the Senate Agriculture Committee to kill a bill that would require the Milk Commission to set milk prices at all levels. She warned it would bludgeon competition and raise consumer costs, noting current powers only cover farmers’ prices. The panel listened coolly as supporters claimed regulation would lower prices. Gov Holshouser reiterated opposition to retail and wholesale price controls and backed repealing laws against below cost sales.
