Fowler Won't Say If Tax Hike Will Be Needed
Secretary Henry Fowler testified before the Senate Finance Committee that it is not yet known whether a tax increase will be required to finance the Viet Nam war. He defended the House tax bill aimed at quick Senate approval while noting one shot revenue items and continuing mortgage sales. He rejected calls to delay the bill for fuller war-financing analysis and warned against misreading budget deficits.
