Boothe Uses States' Rights Theme In Virginia Senate Bid
Former Virginia legislator Armistead L. Boothe entered the Democratic primary race for the U S Senate with a platform of states responsibility and opposition to a repeal of Taft Hartley section 14B. He spoke in Danville about his plans to rely on Melvin Giles to direct his campaign in Virginia's districts while admitting he has no formal campaign organization yet. Boothe argued for limited federal strings, praised past Virginia reforms, and proposed expanding industry with minimal federal interference while backing education and highway funding, and endorsing a cautious stance on civil rights legislation and Vietnam.
