Flood Toll Rising In Texas Cloudburst Disaster
Landslide of water swept through a rural area between San Antonio and El Paso near the Mexican border. Six members of the John West Johnson family were among the dead and a 12 year old son was hospitalized. Charles Horsely, a 22 year old railroad brakeman, recounted being stranded atop an apartment building as the flood engulfed others. A Mrs. Corbbett and Morris Nichols offered harrowing accounts of escape and near drowning while others remained missing in the swift current.

Vietnam War Situation Outlook From 1964 Assessments
Officials assess a range of factors that could favor South Vietnam against the Viet Cong though results are not yet in. They note Viet Cong monsoon strikes but weak supply lines, while South Vietnamese forces exhibit superior mobility and firepower. U.S. air support remains partly available, and ground combat bears mainly on 582,000 Vietnamese troops with 53,000 U.S. personnel. Bombing targets remain military, not population centers, and peace talks have been rebuffed.
