Remembered Danville Cottage on Reid Street Road
Edna Hunt Epperson recalled the house on Reid Street as the main road to Danville with a semicircular driveway lined by boxwood. A tragedy occurred when a cook died after flames erupted, smothered by Mr. Huot with a rug. The George Norman family had it in earlier years, and the Frank Normans rented it later. Papa Dan Norman died there in 1951.

Cities and towns unseen by 1965 North Carolina Assembly
North Carolina towns and cities feel financial strain ignored by the 1965 General Assembly says the NC League of Municipalities. The body backed a power compromises pact ending a feud between private power firms and rural electrification authorities, blocking municipal systems from extending into annexed areas where others supply power. The league criticizes lawmakers for slow action on new revenue sources and notes the failed measure to raise state franchise tax shares for cities and counties would have added about 18 million biannually to towns and 5.5 million to counties.

North Carolina power franchise debate sparks municipal worries
Mrs. Steed warned the amended 1967 law will hurt cities with own systems and weaken franchising authority. The bill, passed by the House but killed in the Senate, risked unequal tax burdens and altered city funding as property taxes funded 37 to 67 percent of revenues in earlier years.
