Northern Virginia gains on Senate committees in 1966 action
The Virginia Senate completed its organization for the 1966 General Assembly by approving committee assignments. The 10th District, centered in Northern Virginia, gained a second seat on the Finance Committee and joined the Privileges and Elections Committee for the first time since 1952, prompting praise from Sen. Charles R. Fenwick of Arlington. The changes required enlarging the P&E Committee to 13 members, with Omer Hirst, Fenwick, and Robert C. Fitzgerald named to the Finance panel. The Steering Committee, led by M. M. Long, reported the action which passed 135-0, while Republicans offered mixed reactions and J. C. Turk criticized the lack of minority representation.
