Southwest Seen Becoming Tops In Beef
Cattle expert John Trotman predicts the Southeast Texas and Oklahoma will lead U S beef cattle production, driven by grass, climate, and a shift from cotton. He notes the Southeast uses less land per cow and foresees 2 percent annual growth for 10 to 20 years, while the region will not compete with the West in feedlots and aims to raise calves for local finishing.
