An Lao Valley Opens to Viet Cong After Cavalry Exit
After a 10 day operation by the U S 1st Cavalry the An Lao Valley west of Bong Son is open again to the Viet Cong fostering a refugee exodus. More than 4 500 have fled toward Highway 1 as inhabitants abandon rice paddies and seek safety. Officials warn the valley may remain unstable with no strong occupation force.
