Carl H. Furgurson was installed as president of the Senior Citizens Club of Danville Inc at the annual Christmas banquet at King of the Sea Restaurant. Officers installed included Walker D. Spearman and Ralph G. Stephens as vice presidents Iris A. Spearman secretary Bertha Colling assistant secretary Virgie Walker treasurer Kemper Davis chaplain and life board members W C McCubbins and John Owens. A 240-member gathering heard Christmas songs led by Chaplain Davis with Nettie P Harris and Mrs Caring performing alongside pianist Mrs B D Clarke.
The funeral for Walter Price Stevens age 77 will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Burial follows in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:36 to p.m. at the funeral home. Stevens, a former saw mill operator, died Wednesday night in Camelot Hall Nursing Home. He lived in Danville and Wythe County, was born in Grayson County and married Myrtle Shumate in 1995. He is survived by four sons and four daughters, a sister, 26 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The family will be at his wife’s residence, Purdum Woods Apt. K-108.
Rebecca Yeatts Jacobs of 409 NW Market Street Reidsville died Thursday morning at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was 73, native of Pittsylvania County, widow of Robert A. Jacobs, and a member of North Scales Street Church of Christ. Survived by three daughters, one son, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral Saturday at 3 p.m. from Church of Christ with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. family to receive friends Friday 7–9 p.m. at Citty Funeral Home. Also listed are funeral notices for Odessa Palmer Dudley Ritchie Albert Lindsey Barksdale with service details and burial plans.
Frances Daniel Booth 56 of 218 Birchwood Road Danville dies from a gunshot wound in Belhaven North Carolina. Funeral at 4 p.m. today at Wrenn Yeatts Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Charlie Shelton and Curtis Harrington. interment Highland Burial Park. Survived by mother Lucile Burgess Daniel sister Harriet D Lancaster son Billy Lane Booth and former husband Julian Edward Booth. Body at funeral home prior to services. Family at residence.
Christine Todd Johnson Todd 65 died Thursday morning at The Memorial Hospital of Danville after years in nursing homes since 1964. Born in Randolph County North Carolina she was married to the late John Todd and lived most of her life in Danville where she worked for Dan River Inc. She leaves two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Highland Burial Park.
Raymond Jake Isom 58, a former Danville Traction and Power driver, died in a Roanoke hospital after a yearlong health decline. Graveside rites Friday in Roanoke with Latz Funeral Home in charge. Survived by three Roanoke sons Glenn Ray Ronald Wayne Michael. a Roanoke daughter Debra Lowe. four brothers in Danville and Greensboro. a sister in Trenton. two granddaughters.
The funeral for Alice Roberts Leigh will be at Swicegood Chapel at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Linwood Johnson with interment in Danville Memorial. The 42 year old Danville resident died after a heart seizure at Memorial Hospital of Danville. She leaves her husband William Leigh, her mother Texie Roberts Leigh, a son Eddie Leigh, two brothers and two half sisters among other relatives. Funeral arrangements are at the family home on Longview Drive Westover Hills.
Funeral services for Fannie Sutherlin Gwynn 81 of Flint Street will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. from Trinity Baptist Church with burial in Oak Hill. She died after a long illness at University Hospital Philadelphia. Survived by eight children in Philadelphia and Atlanta, four sisters, and many relatives. The family is at the residence.
Miss Virginia Cartwright 59 of 224 Randolph St died Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital of Danville after 18 months of declining health. A Danville resident 35 years she was a librarian at Stonewall Jackson School and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. She is survived by two brothers and a sister. Burial Sunday at 2 p.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in King George. Body at Townes Funeral residence.
