Too Tall For Airlines She Drives A Greyhound
Jo Ann Mounce, 5 foot 11, is a Greyhound bus driver in Virginia and the Carolinas, earning about 100 dollars a day on 350 to 400 miles routes. Born in Elkin, North Carolina, she grew up on a farm as the second of nine children and left hosiery work and motel desk jobs for the open road. Some coworkers and strangers doubted a woman could drive a bus, but she defies stereotypes, maintains femininity, and says her job won’t change who she is. Her boyfriend in Winston-Salem worries about her being away.

Virginia's 22 Million Oil Shortage Deficit Audit Reveals
An audit by State Auditor Charles Trible finds Virginia ran a 22 million deficit in emergency fuel purchases during the 1972 74 oil shortage. Overcharges by distributors and a below cost sale of 7 million gallons to Vepco drove the shortfall, with poor records hampering reconstruction. The 1972 to 1975 actions under Holton and subsequent loan balances are noted as factors in the deficit.
