Farm Bureau pig club offers prizes and loans for youths

The Farm Bureau begins a pig raising membership drive for ages 10 to 18. Each member must own a pig under 12 weeks, start feeding by May 1 or July 1, and keep records. Prizes include trips to Lincoln, cash awards from Hampshire and Chester White associations, Armour Farm Bureau funds, and state prizes.

Cholera Serum Sold at One Cent Per CC at State Plant

The State Serum Plant at the University Farm Lincoln offers anti hog cholera serum at one cent per cc, two cents per cc if virus alone is ordered. The serum was purchased from reputable producers and retested as potent. The plant also has fresh cholera virus of extra quality.

Dakota County Board Awards Bridge Contract and Sets Road Plan

The Dakota City board awarded the bridge project to Beatty Contracting Company as the lowest bidder, with a road work schedule set for district tasks and blade work at 85 cents per hour plus round-trip drag rates. Adjournments scheduled for May 1 1920 and August 6 1905 establish the centerline and route for Portis Road in Dakota County Nebraska.

Floods of 1881 Devastate Dakota Territory and Missouri River

The Ponca Journal recalls the April 23 1881 flood with scenes along the Missouri and Dakota Territory. A small sail boat ferried people from house to house on the river bluff while vast ice, up to thirty feet high, raged through Green Island and surrounding country. Attorney Gantt and Sheriff Jones trekked to Sioux City by wagon, hand car, and boat to recover mail and freight, returning with a portion of the town’s mail.
