Farm Notes Making a Hotbed

University of Nebraska horticul ture department advises gardeners planning 50 to 100 foot plots to build a hotbed. North wall 24 inches high, south wall 18 inches, sash slope six inches south. Dig a 16 inch deep pit the size of the frame with a level bottom. Begin manure preparation a week or ten days before planting. if the manure fails to heat add water to the pile.

Acre Day plan to boost Nebraska food supply

A statewide Acre Day is proposed to boost Nebraska's food supply this summer. Town residents would rent an acre, care for it, and observe a weekly Acre Day when stores close and men work on their plots. The plan aims to raise food and provide summer income while coordinating with agricultural extension services.
