Allen News notes E J Way left Wednesday for Central City. Rev Gleason of Willis visited Rev Moore earlier in the week. W J Pettit and Charles Harper traveled to Sioux City on business. Lucile Hecht returned from Homer Nebraska after a visit with relatives. Mrs Allen and daughter Miss Arthur came back from South Sioux City last week.
Mrs William Pettit and daughter Beth with Miss Mary Davis went to Martinsburg Friday evening to spend the weekend at Will Davis home. Mrs Davis is reported ill with the grippe but is now much improved.
David Leamer of Wakefield visits his brother in Sioux City as Harvey Gopnieng of South Sioux City joins the army on his eighteenth birthday. A caucus names Rev. Hillips for mayor and three candidates for council. Ward candidates include Eighteenth ward Fred Gordon, Second ward E T Gaffers, Third ward Charles Westcott. City clerk candidate A G Miller, city engineer W H Bradford, and city treasurer J N Mullan named. Election set for April 2.
Sioux City Journal reports J Oesterling of 1403 Jones Street will undergo an operation at St Josephs hospital. Mrs L D Rolph is seriously ill at the home of her son in law Rev J L Phillips in South Sioux City Neb. Miss Letha Morse and Miss Irene Morse visit Susie Waddell in South Stony City Neb over the weekend.
The Sioux City Crystal Lake and Homer railway asks the Nebraska railway commission for permission to jink its 3.8 mile line citing years of losses and rising costs. The company warns the deficit may reach 4000 next year and notes the Howard family exit risks control shifting to less committed operators.
A car veered into a ditch five miles northwest of Walthill, killing Mrs. Perry Ping who was pulled from mud as the vehicle toppled. Her husband, Mr. Ping, survived with injuries while funeral rites were held at the Methodist church with local officials and relatives in attendance.
