Taft defeats rivals in Indiana Republican contest to claim twelve delegates, bringing his total to 84 votes. The Republican National Committee session turns stormy as President Taft’s forces push for a temporary organization roll call tally of 660.

The Republican national committee seated twelve Taft delegates from Indiana on a stormy day. Taft carried all four at large and districts First Third Fourth Thirteenth with varying votes and objections from Roosevelt supporters. Affidavits from Roosevelt were read despite a vote to exclude them. The Taft slate includes New Fairbanks Watson Oliver. Beveridge Lee Landis Campbell oppose.
Washington June 12 By a narrow margin of three votes the friends of Gen Leonard Wood chief of staff of the United States army lost the fight in the senate to prevent legislation that will retire him from the head of the army on March 4 next and make it impossible for him to again be appointed to that important office.
A four year old child of Charles Meyer of New York in Duluth Minnesota reportedly played with $45,000 worth of black diamonds in a local hotel room. No diamonds were lost and no injuries reported.

London reports Earl Loreburn resigns as Lord high chancellor of England on Monday. Viscount Haldane, formerly secretary of war, succeeds him as chancellor in a notable government transition.
In Villisca Iowa an unknown assailant killed eight people including Joseph B Moore Mra Joseph B Moore Herman Catherine Boyd Paul Moore and the Spillinger sisters Lena and Ina with an axe. The killer is believed to have entered upstairs and fled before dawn. John Vangilder of Omaha is suspected and being sought by local militia and officers.
Washington reports Rear Admiral Benjamin Peffer Lamberton died at his home after a long illness at age sixty eight. Other dispatches note Senate plans to vote on the Lorimer case July 6, a San Quentin riot with one killed, and various political duties across states.
The Vendemiaire submarine was crushed by the battleship Saint Louis off the Cherbourg peninsula and sank in 150 feet of water with 23 crew aboard including Commander Lieutenant Prioul and Enelen Audic. An inquiry absolves the Saint Louis of blame as the craft surfaced beneath its bow.
