The British battleship Formidable sank in the English Channel during a violent storm. Of 750 crew, 71 were saved. 14 officers and 66 men were rescued. Survivors were landed by a trawler after the disaster, with the cause unclear, possibly a mine or submarine. The ship, sister to Irresistible and Implacable, was completed in 1901 and commissioned in 1903.
