Multiple North Nebraska towns report visits to Crystal Lake with families and friends from Hubbard Sioux City and Dakota City. Local officials and residents discuss camping outings fishing and boating while political talk and fence building lie ahead. A Sioux City window theft and a roadhouse raid highlight ongoing local incidents.
The Nebraska State Fair begins September 4 with top auto races featuring leading drivers. About 90 000 cars exist in Nebraska with 5 000 expected in the fairgrounds on opening day. Ruth Law will perform a fearless air show during September 4 to 8 and new designs in up to date machinery will be on display. The fair includes three heats and two running races daily and over 200 babies will be examined in the first four days. Nine bands perform, plus opera chorus and vocal instrumental soloists across the week.
Henry Ostmyer and wife convey part of the northwest quarter of section to Frederick Barvels. Frank Lilly and others transfer to James B. Smith a parcel in block 18, Jackson, Washington.
The 35th annual session of the Pioneers and Old Settlers association of Dakota County held at Clinton Park in August 1916 features Hon. John C Martin of Central… band from Sioux City, a sports program, and a long list of officers and committees including President John C Duggan, Secretary Geo Wilkins, and many marshals, with extensive member registrations and invitations listed.
A list compiled by the Secretary records deaths of Dakota County Pioneers and Old Settlers since the last reunion. Names span Dakota City to South Sioux City and Omaha with death dates from 1915 to 1916, including Mrs. Mary Walsh, Dr. D. C. Stinson, and Mrs. Henry Fisher among many.
