Residents of Dakota City and nearby towns hosted gatherings at multiple homes including the J H Allen residence and the Berry and Moran houses. University extension poultrymen advise growing pullets do better with animal food such as skim milk buttermilk meat scraps or high grade tankage. Insects and worms may be limited in dry weather so extra protein helps. At the University Farm pullets have been laying since July 2.
Wayne Dinsmore reports from Illinois counties that high breeding, export demand, and scarce good sires threaten draft horse supply. Field notes from La Salle Iroquois and Woodford show few foals and yearlings per farm, with rising prices and concern for 1920 21 22 replacements as export demand grows and sires remain scarce.
Prizes totaling twelve hundred sixty dollars are offered at the State Fair for boys and girls club exhibits. Six hundred dollars funds go to canning and airing demonstrations. An entire barn is set aside for junior exhibits as clubs gain strong features at the fair. The program is organized by the College of Agriculture Extension Service and the United States Department of Agriculture with local contributions from stock yards firms in Omaha and Sioux City.
