The Nebraska state board approved adjustments that raise the values of Nebraga items, increasing totals for the affected assessments and aligning them with current market data. Officials cited updated figures and financial implications for taxpayers.
Box Butte County reports a total valuation of 2,198,203 an increase of 221,664 over 1911. The state’s total assessed valuation stands at 465,907,204 one fifth value. Requisition from Illinois dispatch notes Governor Deneen seeking Nick Gavas alias Davison in Omaha on larceny charge.
A large new well dug by convict labor now supplies the penitentiary with water. Although walling is incomplete, water is being pumped into the institution. The new well provides more water than the five small wells that previously nearly exhausted their supply.
Thomas Cramer, sentenced to the penitentiary from Box Butte county, escaped from the sheriff during transport to Lincoln. He crawled to the top of the coach, leaped off near Mason City, and fled into timber. pursuit and firing later led to his recapture.
The state board of irrigation heard the Kearney Water and Electric Powers company petition to take Platte river water for power tubing. Attorneys for and against the project argued about priority rights and the board’s authority amid a broad coalition of irrigation interests.

Jacob F. Guthrie, a college graduate and former instructor, was captured in a loop chase after a spree that netted art treasures, silverware, rare books, and jewels worth about 150000 dollars from Chicago’s wealthy. He claimed to “only rob the rich” as his defense, drawing comparisons to fictional masters like Lupin. An earlier bank ruse led to his arrest by Officer McCaffrey.

The House majority report accuses J. P. Morgan and associates of large profits from overcapitalization of U S steel subsidiaries and the steel trust. Former President Roosevelt is charged with enabling the trusts control. The report labels the steel empire an enemy of organized labor and cites watered stock as inflated.

About fifty shots were exchanged Saturday between U S soldiers and unidentified Mexican shooters in East El Paso. No one was hit and there were no arrests. The exchange began with three shots fired at a house on C H Cole and continued with bullets striking three houses near the river and a foundry roof.
