Desperado Solon Attacks Judge in Hannibal Court
In Hannibal Missouri Solon, released on bail after an arrest by Constable Anderson, insulted Judge Richmond and struck him with a cane during bail proceedings. The judge sustained facial and arm injuries. Solon fled but was recaptured and committed to Palmyra jail until the case proceeds.

Fire damages house on North East street
Fire alarm rang about 8 o clock as residents fled in every direction. The blaze stemmed from a defective flue in a dwelling owned by Mrs. Emory at North East street and occupied by W J Hall, Union School janitor. Firemen saved some items but the house suffered about $200 in damage with no insurance. Hall had insurance on furniture.

Pioneer Woman Sarah Hopkins Dies in Berwick at 80
Mrs. Sarah Hopkins died this morning in Berwick at about 80 years of age. Born in Maryland she moved to Berwick about fifty years ago and lived there with her husband who helped prepare timber on the grounds. She is the mother of Charles and Reuben Hopkins. The funeral will be held tomorrow at ten o'clock at the residence of her son in law Mr Rathell.

County officials begin jail inspection tour today
The commissioners, accompanied by the sheriff, clerk, and probate judge, start a four day inspection trip from Ontonagon to Bellefontaine, Sidney, Lima and parts of Indiana to study county jails with the aim of constructing a solid city jail in the spring.
