Seven Sleepers Tale and Ancient Legends Across Faiths
A Brooklyn reader asks for the names of the Seven Sleepers and where their tale is recited. The legend centers on Mount Ion, a pilgrimage site with Christians and Muslims, recounting seven youths of Ephesus led by Malchus and others who sleep 230 years, wake to a changed world, and die in Marseilles where a relic lies. The tale spans Diogenes Laertius to Washington Irving, with Mahomet’s Quran version and Turkish names for the sleepers and their dog Ketmeha, offered with talismans in Ayasolook. The piece also includes an extended excerpt on health education and Dr. Pierce's Common Sense Medical Adviser.
