Boy struck by bullet near eyes while walking home
Michael Eichhorn a sixth grader at Averedo School was hit on the right side of the head while walking south on Farwell Drive. Police say the exact bullet size is unknown but likely a Caliber. He is in Sans care unit. His parents Paul and Patricia Groves live at 491 Chalamette Park Drive. The Fremont Marching Band member has no brothers. Police have no leads or motive and ask citizens to contact the department with any information.

Social Security Opens First San Leandro Office Oct 7
Social Security will open the first San Leandro office on October 7 in room 212 at 161 Cal lan Ave. The full service site will cover retirement disability health insurance and Social Security numbers with 3420 square feet and hours 8 30 am to 4 30 pm Monday through Friday. Roland Clements will manage the office with 34 employees transferred from Oakland. Mayor Jack Maltester hailed the move as a long effort to aid elderly residents. The only other South County office is in Hayward.

Pathfinder Days returns for its tenth year at Central Park with events from the Fremont Atalanta foot race to a carnival.
