SAN LEANDRO It is too early to estimate costs for a proposed elevated cross town freeway linking the Southern Crossing and the Nimitz Freeway. State officials say the plan is concept and studies focus on traffic patterns and transfer designs. The idea aims to connect at Davis Street with the proposed bridge from India Basin to Alameda, running above Davis to the Nimitz Freeway with an interchange near Doolittle Drive. The plan, discussed at a manufacturers luncheon, addresses fears over traffic from the Southern Crossing project approved in principle. The cost of the Southern Crossing is estimated at about 300 million dollars, including bridge and approaches, with further links to the Bay Farm Island and shoreline networks.

Elderly Hayward Man Dies In Hit Run Crash
A 70 year old Hayward man, Jose Torres, was killed when struck by a vehicle on Mission Boulevard near St James Court. Officers say the driver fled the scene. no skid marks were found and sash of glass indicated a headlamp. Torres, a sailor from the USS Enterprise, lived at 22434 Santa Clara Ave. His body lay in the northbound lanes as authorities search for the hit run driver.
