Parks Man Injured in Death Strip Crash Near Castro Valley

A Parks Air Force base sergeant, Edward Schwetke 87, of Dallas Texas, and passenger Mon Yee 25 of San Francisco were injured when three vehicles collided on Highway 59 east of Castro Valley. Eng 25 of Long appeared to swerve to avoid Schwetke, but the front of Eng’s car struck Schwetke, sending his vehicle into a tractor and double trailer. Truck driver Lawrence Taylor 42 of Porterville was also injured.

Leandro Cops Arrest 3 Youths On Dope Charge

SAN LEANDRO police arrested three youths on suspicion of illegal narcotics paraphernalia possession after one nearly died at Fairmont Hospital. Louis Alexander 18 Arlen Adams 20 and Geoffrey Frambs 18 held on scene. A narcotics kit was found at Frambs home as officers investigated.

In Clay Kentucky the Webster County Board of Education unanimously ruled that Negro children could not transfer from the all Negro Providence School to the all white Clay Consolidated School. The seven member board cited a state ruling about illegal attendance and prohibited the Gordon children from attending next Monday. The National Guard had escorted two children to classes earlier in the week and a third joined them yesterday, as White citizens boycotted the Day School. Segregationists urged organized patrols to counter integration threats, while a white supremacist leader in Washington urged forming bands to travel to defend segregation.

Egyptians Pilot First Suez Ships

A cool air mass spread across the nation from the Mississippi Valley to the North Atlantic Coast. The western weather was fair while the southeast faced showers and thunderstorms.
