Laughing gas tanker overturns near Madera

A nitrous oxide tanker overturned on U S 9 near Madera causing no injuries but one officer was exposed, treated, then released. The driver Hersard Wilson of Oakland reported a strong gas odor. Residents evacuated briefly until gas deemed non poisonous and non explosive. The trailer separated from its tractor in the northbound lane and spread into the southbound lane.

Moonlight and Roses Dinner Dance Planned by Bay-O-Vista Club

Castro Valley Bay O Vista Improvement Association announces its annual dinner dance Moonlight and Roses set for Saturday October 4 at Willow Park Golf and Country Club. Orchestral Auditions Set In San Leandro Wednesday

Laszlo Varea conductor of the San Leandro Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions for the group on Wednesday September 17. Amateur and professional musicians may be heard at the school. Interested players should contact Bryant Figeroid at 4834700 to arrange audition time.

Widow of Bishop Ames A Pike says husband will communicate after death

Mrs. Diane Pike of San Jose says her late husband Ames A Pike will continue to communicate with her since they are not separated by death. She spoke at St. Francis Episcopal Church after arriving home from Israel where Pike was buried. The bishop died last weekend in the Judean Desert while the couple, researching a book on the Use of Jesus, became stranded and lost their way. Her body was recovered after a long search.

Lynch says marijuana upsurge leads to hard drugs in California

California Attorney General Thomas Lynch told the State Bar convention that marijuana deliveries from Mexico are pushing users toward narcotics and hard drugs. Student held on murder charge near Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz a 23 year old San Jose State College student Seth M Brody was booked on murder charges after a fatal collision described by Highway Patrolmen as sparked by his rage at seeing his girlfriend with another man Witnesses said Brody forced a pickup truck off a road near Seous Valley at about 43 miles per hour the truck overturned injuring Ronald J Bermudes 22 of Campbell while Brody's girlfriend Caral Buizback 23 of Santa Cruz sustained injuries He reportedly told officers he did not want to kill anyone and asked if he had ever been in love while inquiring about Buizback's condition
