Eight Hold To Fast Deadline

LOS ANGELES UPI Only eight of a group of 20 hunger strikers began Friday night held out to the deadline. The group mainly CONGRESS OF RACIAL EQUALITY members vowed to prepare mentally and physically for any tests. A spokesman said four ended the fast after 24 hours. Six others held for 36 hours then left due to headaches and sickness. The two who left the home of John Donnely were Rev. Morris Samuel and his wife they planned to return to his East Los Angeles parish but kept the fast until the deadline.

Young Demos Take Action In Spokane

Young Democrats of Washington urge the Western States Conference of Young Democrats to reconvene Berkeley decisions on foreign affairs. They want a new vote on disputed resolutions including restoring trade and diplomatic ties with Cuba. Washington directors met after midnight in Spokane and sent proxies to block the measures, but the proxies were not counted.

Fulbright Pushes A Pact in Senate Debate

Fulbright warned that Senate reservations to the nuclear test ban would be unwise and irresponsible while presentation of the pact's safety and risks drew mixed support. The six of seven members signed report. subcommittee heard testimony in closed session and offered no direct ratification recommendation. The treaty aims to outlaw nuclear tests in atmosphere space and water, with U S backing and opposition from Stennis Russell Teller and others.

Rabid Monkey Bites Woman Seeks Rabies Shots

In St. Paul Minnesota a 18 year old California girl, Joanne Marie Weber of Stockton, was bitten by a pet monkey from Lima Peru that later tested rabid. She began a series of 14 anti rabies shots after authorities confirmed the monkey carried rabies. Weber plans missionary work and has nursing training in Illinois. Her parents, Donald and a nurse mother, are tied to missionary efforts with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
