Plan Would Realign Alameda County Congressional Districts
The special masters plan favored by the California Supreme Court keeps Southern Alameda County with two representatives but moves South County from the Eighth District to the Ninth and Tenth. Sub crew saved after long Atlantic submarine ordeal
The Pisces VI rescue recovered two crewmen Roger Chapman and Roger Mallinson from the disabled submarine 1,875 feet down in the Atlantic. They were raised after 75 hours 50 minutes, aided by a Navy tethered rescue cable and U S Navy and Pisces owners personnel.

Remains of Fremont MIA Found in Vietnam
Remains of Army Spec. 3 Allan Kennedy and six other crew members were identified in Vietnam, ending long uncertainty since Kennedy vanished on November 4 1969 during a helicopter mission. His mother Mrs Dorothy Kennedy of Fremont said DoD notified her and her husband Arlo, and arrangements for funeral services will be made in Fremont. Kennedy, 19, was a second tour door gunner with the Kent Assault Helicopter Division in Phan Thiet. He has two brothers Ray and Leslie, and the family previously hoped he might still be alive.

Labor Day Traffic Deaths Forecast By Safety Council
The National Safety Council warned that 530 to 650 people could die in traffic accidents during the Labor Day weekend from Friday evening to Monday night. An estimated 22,000 would suffer disabling injuries nationwide with potential reductions if drivers allow travel time and wear seat belts. Last year 402 died in similar weekend incidents.
