Truman Urges Legion Backing Universal Training
President Truman asked the American Legion to back universal military training and a new G I Bill of Rights for Korean veterans as the 33rd annual convention opened in Miami Florida. He argued universal training would create a ready reserve and praised the 1944 G I Bill as guidance for veterans benefits. The retiring commander predicted a convention with a strong political tone urging Korea action and possible UN war aims. Secretary Lovett was set to address the gathering this afternoon.

Warren Refuses Extradition of Georgia Burglar
Governor Karl Warren refused Georgia’s extradition request for John W. Brown 45 who escaped from a prison chain gang 23 years ago. Warren said removing him would harm the family and that Brown was convicted of minor burglaries at 20, has led a stable life, and would impair justice by breaking up the home.
