Castro Valley directors voted to help pay for enlarging the Long Loma outfall sewer by financing increased capacity. The move comes despite the result of a $400,000 bond election in October.

Gerald Worthley says a new jet line sewer upgrade has been completed, while North Bay air patrols warn of Soviet jet activity. Two Russian MIG-14 fighters buzzed Hayward, a C-47 transport landed safely at Templehot airfield. Col George Roberts of Monorail Engineering and Construction, Los Angeles, announced plans to build a city rail system in Los Angeles using a single rail akin to the German project. A 40 mile route with trains at 40 to 110 miles per hour was proposed, with construction slated to start next summer.

He then spoke in Detroit to about 5000 at Mason Temple, challenging McCarthy’s claims and linking the issue to the forthcoming November race.
Kiwanis club of San Lorenzo Village nominates Aiton for president for 1953 term starting January. Gonsalves nominated for vice president. The election meeting will be held Tuesday night at Villa Lorenzo. Retiring president Provier and several nominees named for director seats. Guest attendees include attorney Richard Mlaherty and florist John Towala.
Mrs. Albert Volavdy reports missing chinchilla, silver fox, and mink furs from a San Leandro shop. Police note the thief copied items and left three furs in a closet as he fled.
United States and United Nations forces halted the Chinese aided offensive on White Horse Mountain near Chor Wor. Secretary Dean Acheson said the United Nations will not participate in truce talks “merely to be subjected to Communist abuse and propaganda.” He urged a constructive offer and warned the communists they must recognize they cannot toy with hopes for Korean peace. He emphasized an armistice is possible if POW issues are settled and that the U N will not trade human lives.
A San Lorenzo man allegedly handed a SI700 check to Mrs. Lillian Zinslon after a used car sale dispute. Detectives report he stayed with her, then drove the car to her home and left a check. she refused to cash it until Monday. A warrant for grand theft and bad check has been issued with bail set at 3000. The case also mentions a Hollywood tragedy involving Lana Varn and Fernanda Lamis.
