Honolulu study links light beer use to lower heart attack risk

In a six year study of 8 1K Japanese ancestry men aged 45 to 68 at the Asian Pacific Congress of Cardiology, those with heart disease averaged seven ounces of alcohol per month while those without heart disease averaged 14 ounces mainly beer. Researchers caution correlation, not causation, and find no significant link for coffee. The congress drew about 1 000 delegates.

Allied Chemical fined for Kepone pollution on James River

In Richmond a federal judge fined Allied Chemical Corp. 13.2 million for contaminating the James River with Kepone and two other chemicals. The judge said the maximum penalty for 940 violations aims to deter industry and protect the environment.

Ford Carter confident ahead of second presidential debate
