Knight Denies Truth Of Story In LA Paper
Governor Knight rejected a Los Angeles News story linking him to a 1953 San Diego liquor license deal. He said he never intervened in any liquor license case and criticized the letter as ungrounded. Knight spoke in Bellflower on his one year as California’s chief executive, noting ballot items on liquor control and school band funding, narcotics penalties, and taxes. He cited job and payroll gains and outlined highway and labor dispute adjustments under his administration.

Port losses were estimated near 1.5 million dollars.
