Rains Persist Across Northern California

The eighth straight day of rain drenched Northern California with only temporary breaks. Forecaster L B Rasey said no permanent clearing is seen as a large storm front about 900 miles off the Washington coast drives active disturbances toward the coast. Hayward reported 1.0 inches of rainfall today for a season total of 80.0 inches, far above last year, while Sierra Nevada statewide rainfall nears 17.67 inches in eight days and PG&E engineers measure 14.82 inches in four days as rivers swell.

Alameda County warns private well water may be flood contaminated

Emergency notice from Alameda County Health Department urges residents in flood zones using private wells to boil or disinfect water before use. Instructions include boiling water for five minutes or adding one quarter teaspoon of laundry bleach per gallon and letting stand twenty minutes, plus steps to disinfect wells and tank systems after floodwater recedes.
